Regarding the behaviour of John Carter, now on HMS Ajax, who was Petty Officer on HMS Romulus when the crew mutinied in 1797, turning guns on the officers in posession of the quarter-deck, Hope, giving his reasons, refuses to grant a certificate of good behaviour.
