Description

Folios 617-618: Samuel Hood, HMS Zealous, Chatham. Regarding Ralph Laws, serving on Zealous, who is rated Ab and is a very sober, quiet seaman who would have been promoted to Petty Officer had there not been others equally deserving and longer serving.

Folios 619-620: enclosure with folios 617-618. Letter dated 4 April 1800 by R Burdon to the Admiralty seeking a discharge for Tinmouth and promotion for Ralph Laws.

Folios 621-622: enclosure with folios 617-618. Letter dated March 13 from a [Mr Elstob ?] to Mr Scarth in Castle Eden, asking him to remind Burdon of the request to speak to Bertie concerning Tinmouth's discharge.

Folio 623: enclosure with folios 617-618.Letter dated 27 March 1800 by Thomas Laws in Stockton , on behalf of his son Ralph Laws on HMS Zealous, who has served in several engagements including the memorable Battle of the Nile, soliciting Mr Rowland Burdon [MP] to push for his promotion on HMS Zealous or any other of His Majesty's vessels.

Folio 624: enclosure with folios 617-618. also letter dated January 18 from Blythman Tinmouth on HMS Ardent at Yarmouth Roads to his brother and sister requesting that his brother speak to Mr Burdon to request that he write to Captain Bertie [Sir Thomas Hoar, aka Hoar Bertie] of HMS Ardent, explaining that he is advancing in years and is seeking a discharge.
