Folios 176-177: Charles Hamilton, HMS Melpomene, Spithead. Regarding Admiralty orders in relation to the intended attack on Senegal, suggesting that a gun brig be prepared to sail with him, as he views it as a necessary requirement to carry troops over the bar of the river.
Folios 178-179: enclosure with folios 176-177. A response from tthe Admiralty, dated 20 November, stating that they do not think it fit to deploy further Naval forces to the Coast of Africa but that Hamilton's orders give him discretion to act as circumstances demand.
