Description

Folios 144-145: Charles Hamilton, HMS Melpomene, Goree. Explaining how he had taken the Garrison on Goree, after informing the Governor of his terms and receiving the Governor's acceptance.

Folios 146-147: enclosure with folios 144-145. Letter in French, from the Governor of the Garrison, responding to the verbal srrender demands from Hamilton.

Folio 148: enclosure with folios 144-145. Copy of Hamilton's response back to the Governor, insisting that the Fort and Island of Goree be handed over before 12.00 on April 5 and he will allow the men to march out with the Honours of War.

Folios 149-150: enclosure with folios 144-145. List of the Governore, Officers and Marines now in the Garrison, noting to which ship they belong.

Folios 151-152: enclosure with folios 144-145. List in French, of the officers and soldiers in the Garrison [at the point of surrender?].

Folios 153-154: enclosure with folios 144-145. Letter in French, signed by the individual inhabitants of the Island of Goree, expressing sincere gratitude for being well treated.
