Folios 122-123: blank.
Folios 124-131: Joshua Sydney Horto, HMS Fairy, Spithead. Encloses a letter of service from Captain [Richard] Bennet, HMS Amphion and reports his arrival in company with [Fana?] schooner and Portugese schooner Gaza. Both were found in distress and guided in. In compliance with orders from Bennet, whilst at Maderia, he further advises of the capture of the Bonaventa, a Spanish privateer, and the recapturing of two English briggs. He escorted a convoy to Sierra Leone stopping at St Jago enroute to replenish water. On arrival at Sierra Leone he was presented with a letter by the Governor with information concerning the [Gozee?] cruiser prompting him to patrol down the coast. 20 March 1799 arrived at [C Coast?] and received orders from Bennet dated 10 March and sailed from there on the 23 March. On 26 June he fell in with the Herald, an American Letter of Mark, enroute from Barcalona to Boston. He was unhappy with the masters lack of assistance and sent Lieutenant Jones on board. He returned with two men and a boy, one man West, he retained as having no papers or protections. This caused the crew of the Herald to resist ultimately leading to Horton threatening to fire upon her. He subsequently took what provisions he needed from the Herald and paid in cash. He states his ship is in need of repair particularly the copper being very bad and needs to strip her masts and refit the rigging.
Folios 132-133: enclosure with folios 124-131. A letter dated 28 February 1799 by Zachary Macaulay Governor of Freetown Sierra Leone to JS Horton. He seeks the Fairy's assistance in stopping raids on the port by suppressing the marauders and asks that a consignment of ivory is taken to England.
Folio 134: enclosure with folios 124-131. A list of defects to the Fairy prepared by the carpenter John Preston
Folio 135: enclosure with folios 124-131. A letter dated 25 July 1799 at Spithead by John Preston, carpenter on Fairy, listing her defects.
Folios 136-137: enclosure with folios 124-131. A letter dated 5 April 1799 by Thomas [Frank?] to Horton. He acknowledges that HMS Amphion will sail for the West Indies on rhe 25th with such vessels that are prepared. He adds that the letter Horton wants forwarded to Old Calaber will not go as there is great risk from war canoes and watering is very difficult at the river Camaroon.
Folio 138: enclosure with folios 124-131. A letter dated 29 April 1799 by Captain [Richard Henry Alexander] Bennet, HMS Amphion in Princes Harbour. He directs Horton to repair to England with the convoy and report his arrival in the Downs.
