Folios 243-244: John Hamstead, HMS Squirrel, Woolwich. William Wardrop, Purser of HMS Squirrel, wishes to resign his warrant. Encloses his letter and if his request is granted asks for another Purser to be appointed.
Folios 245-246: enclosure with folios 243-244. Letter dated 19 November 1799 from William Wardrop, HMS Squirrel, Woolwich, to Captain John Hamstead, HMS Squirrel. Following receipt of a letter from his wife and friends since his arrival in this country he has been induced to give up his warrant as Purser in HM Navy. He hopes there will be no objection to his leaving the ship as his only reason is for the benefit of his wife and family .
