Folios 215-217: enclosure with folios 213-215. Letter dated 1 July 1799 from Graham Eden Hamond, HMS Champion, Yarmouth Roads, to Evan Nepean, Admiralty, London. He retook 6 Seamen belonging to the Active brig of London in the Anacreon French privateer and also retook the Active brig which had been captured by the Anacreon and is now lying in the Roads. The owners have applied to him for them. Asks for directions.
Folios 217-219: enclosure with folios 213-215. Letter dated 19 August 1799 from Graham Eden Hamond, HMS Champion, Nore, to Evan Nepean, Admiralty, London. Receipt of letter of 14 [August 1799] directions to state the case of Joseph Frankish. He is one of the 6 men found in the Anacreon French privateer when captured and as directed by letter dated 2 July [1799] was detained on board HMS Champion.
Folios 219-221: enclosure with folios 213-215. Letter dated 22 August 1799 from Graham Eden Hamond, HMS Champion, Nore, to Evan Nepean, Admiralty, London. In reply to the letter of 20 [August 1799] respecting Joseph Frankish. Since he has been on board he has not been subject to fits and he thinks he is capable of performing his allotted duty as Steward of the Gun room which exempts him from going aloft. He was not serving on board the Anacreon as part of her complement but had been captured in an English merchant brig, the Master and crew of which he also recaptured.
Folios 221-222: enclosure with folios 213-215. Unsigned and undated letter to Evan Nepean. Frankish was one of 6 men capture by the Anacreon, an enemy cutter, when belonging to a cheese ship employed by the Victualling Office and retaken by HMS Champion. Captain Hammond [Hamond] wrote for directions and was ordered to detain them if fit for service. Frankish had a certificate signed by Mr Kirkman, the examining Surgeon at Hull, certifying that due to fits he was unfit for service and sent it to the Board and requested to be discharged so that he could be restored to a very numerous family. He has been compelled occasionally to take a trip in the cheese chip to relieve the family. Captain Hammond [Hamond] says he returned the certificate and application but it does not appear [to be the case].
