Folios 124-125: Lawrence William Halsted, HMS Phoenix, Spithead. John Williams and Richard Goodfellow of Falmouth have recently deserted from the ship as they are married and their wives live there. He thinks a letter to the Lieutenant of the rendezvous there would be the means of catching them. He is anxious for them to be caught as they have tried to desert before and were taken shortly afterwards. Because of the character they had he was induced not to try them by Court Martial. They formerly belonged to the Packet service and he took them in a French privateer with the remainder of 2 packet ships' company all of whom have behaved well except these two. He would have written himself but he feels a letter from the Admiralty would carry more weight.
