Description

Folios 218-219: Richard Hill, HMS Tromp, Liverpool. Report the arrival of 693 French Prisoners of War. He encloses the letter he received stating that the vessels are not fit to transport the prisoners to Spithead. Lieutenant Fisher , who ie the Agent for Transports here, has no Transports at present therefore it will be necessary to hire vessels to carry those prisoners that cannot be received on board HMS Tromp, to Spithead. [Details of the Numbers and Coasts involved. Mentions :- HMS Kangaroo, HMS Hebe, Charles Ross Purser of HMS Tromp, Mr Stephens late Purser of HMS Tromp]. Inclosed [not present] the weekly accounts for HMS Tromp.

Folio 220: enclosure with folios 218-219: Letter dated 26 November 1798 by John Turner, Liverpoo, to Richard Hill, HMS Tromp. Report of the safe arrival of six Hundred & Ninety three French Prisoners of War in the Six Transports named in the margin from Newry. State that the Transports are taken up on the part of the Government of Ireland for this port only and his orders are to take back the Guards (consisting of Two Hundred and five Officers and Privates of the North Ireland Fencibles to Newry. It will therefore be necessary for him to keep[ two of the transports for that purpose, the other four he fears are not fit Vessels to proceed to Portsmouth.
