Folios 153-154: Richard Hill, HMS Tromp, Isle of Wight. Reports arriving this morning, having left Spithead on Monday, it being too late after the ship was paid off on Sunday to get under way that day. He has written to Major General [George] Don to acquaint him of his arrival that he may consult with him concerning the dispersal of the Naval Force under his orders so soon as he knows the most venerable part of the Coast he will place the Gun vessels, in the mean time he has ordered HMS Terror, Lieutenant [Richard] Horsley from Lymington Creek & HMS Fury, Lieutenant Bourne [David Burn?] from a creek near Hurst Castle to join Lieutenant Stewart [Nathaniel Stuart] of HMS Ferret in Allam Bay [Alum Bay] and so soon as he has got the best information where a ship can lye he will place HMS Tromp so as to act in the most efficacious manner in case of an attack. HMS Sulphur [James Keith Shepard] having received orders last night, left for Spithead this morning. He encloses [not present] a weekly account.
