Description

Folios 122-123: John Baker Hay, HMS Sensible, Portsmouth. Being informed that Lieutenant Robert Stupart, First of HMS Sensible being appointed to HMS Atlas and Lieutenant Thomas Jones and Lieutenant J Ayscough are appointed to HMS Queen Charlotte. Informs that the former is the only officer he has to do duty. That the second is under arrest by Admiralty Order and the third is at Falmouth in charge of the Graaff Bernstorff, a Dutch East India Ship which was detained. He further represents that Lieutenant Robert Stupart is retained as evidence on the pending Court Martial which is to try Lieutenant Thomas Jones. He request that Lieutenant J Ayscough continue on the Graaff Bernstorff (where he now is) until the Court Martial of Lieutenant Thomas Jones and when the Court Martial is concluded and then That Lieutenant Robert Stupart take the place of Lieutenant J Ayscough on the Graaff Bernstorff until her fate is determined as she may be of great value in prise money.
