Folios 90-91: John Baker Hay, HMS Alliance, Long Reach. He states that HMS Alliance as being, as represented in the enclosed Weekly Accounts, Twenty four Men and Two Boys short of Complement and heavy rigged in proportion to her being manned only as a Sloop of War and only bears Eighteen Petty [Officers] and Able [Seaman]. He request her complement be filled also to allow a few Royal Marines to do the duty of Sentinels.
