Folios 214-215: Lawrence William Halstead, HMS Phoenix, Plymouth Sound. Reports his arrival in company with the French Privateer Le Brave, carrying 18 guns and 160 men. She was captured on the night of 24 April after some resistance, during which a few of her men were killed and 14 wounded. HMS Phoenix received some trifling damage to sails and rigging but no casualties. Le Brave is a fine ship. He is pleased to report that none of the more than 50 English prisoners on board were injured. The next day they retook The Thetis, a valuable American ship from Charlestown bound for London, captured by the Privateer a few days earlier. Le Brave and L'Hydra (22 guns and 230 men) sailed from ?Nantes almost together in early March. These are the 2 ships he went in search of on 22 March following the intelligence received from a neutral homeward-bound ship. They parted company on 14 March. As there is no prison at Milford Haven, he proceeded to Plymouth to land the French prisoners. he encloses the journal of his voyage and the state and condition report of his ship [neither present].
