Folios 230-231: Joshua Sydney Horton, Blenheim Hotal. James Smith, Boatswain of HMS [?] wishes to be transferred to a larger ship. He recommeds him for promotion due to his having undertaken Boatswain duties on HMS Courageux while the Boatswain was ferquently ill or intoxicated. He perfomed well particularly when HMS Courageux was facing the batteries at St [Friorenza?] and against the tower at St Maria when the ship was damaged and he proved to be an active Officer and good Seaman.
