Folios 226-227: William Hope, HMS Venerable, the Nore. He has been asked by the Lord Advocate of Scotland to receive on board a young gentleman from Holland, by the name of Hoyel or Hojel, who formerly served on the Dutch Frigate Jason, now in the River Clyde. He was forced to serve against his principles as he is of the Orange party. His father had been an Officer in the Dutch Horse Guards who escaped to Demorary in the revolution. His family is well known to Captains Allier and Deitez of the Dutch ship Zephyr. The Lord Advocate raised a subscription amongst his friends in Scotland to enable Mr Hoyel to be on the quarter deck of HMS Venerable, subject to his receiving permission.
