Folios 209-210: Rodham Home. He is enclosing Lieutenant Davie of the Marines letter. He was Lieutenant of Marines on board HMS Africa at Halifax. Prince Edward recommended him to the War Office for a commission inthe 7 Regiment but he was at sea and when he returned he declined the offer. Meanwhile he had been left out of the list of Marine Officers and asks to be reinstated in his former rank, of first Lieutenant. His commission date of 18 July 1796 loses much of his rank. He can confirm the truth of his statement and was present when he declined the commission.
Folios 211-212: enclosure with folios 209-210 dated 2 October 1796 from Lieutenant Francis Davie of the Marines, HMS Swiftsure, Portsmouth Harbour, to Rodham Home and Mr Sykes, Navy Agent, Arundle Street, Strand, London. His commission has been dated 18 July 1796 when it should be March 1795. It puts him at the bottom of the list when he should be a First Lieutenant. He asks to be reinstated to his previous position.
