1814 Apr 12
Folios 130-131: Andrew Green, HMS Harrier, Sheerness. Covering letter for the enclosed letter sent at the request of Mr Townsend, Master's Mate of HMS Harrier.
Folios 132-133: enclosure with folios 130-131. Letter dated 1 April 1814 by Joseph Townsend, HMS Harrier. To Admiralty. Waiting anxiously for an answer to his letter of 5 March 1814 which had a short narrative of his existing sufferings when prisoner in France and also details of the treatment he received from the Commissary of Marine at Dunkirk with a copy of the Certificate of his good conduct from the Captains he sailed with. He regrets the loss of a letter of recommendation he received from Captain Thomas Graves of HMS Brunswick when he was taken prisoner of his conduct in a Gun Boat in the Belt which he commanded of at the capture of the Danish Brig Fama and Sacorman Cutter and for which hw was recommended to Admiral Sir Richard Keates [Richard Goodwin Keats]. Adds that he has quitted HMS Namure and joined HMS Harrier wishing to be actively employed. PS From the knowledge he has of the [Elb?] he should be extremely happy, should their Lordships promote him, to command a Gun Boat up that River.
