Folios 246-247: William Gordon, HMS Magicienne, Lat 49° 14'°Long 9° 30' E. Advises that he captured the American brig Leo on 4 June 1813, an account of which he has given Admiral Martin at Lisbon. Reports the intelligence extracted from an American paper of 6 May 1813 at Portland: the squadron sailed on 30 April 1813 at 9 am, the frigate President, Commodore Rogers and the Congress, Captain Smith, weighed anchor in President Road, Boston and proceeded to sea in cloudy weather and a moderate SW wind, discharging their pilots 3 leagues of Cape Ann and then steered NE until out of view in the night. Advises that from what he is able to collect, it is generally understood in America that their object is to intercept outward convoys between this and Cape Finistere. Advises that he also understands that, prior to the Leo sailing, 3 privateers, each of 22 guns , had left New York in order to intercept the Greenland trade.
