Folios 237-238: John Gourly, Regulating Captain, Aberdeen. States the case of William Ross and Mr Henderson who were imprest from a house of ill fame at midnight in Aberdeen, making a great noise in the process and disturbing the local inhabitants. In anticipation of a petition to discharge the men being received by the Admiralty advises, that since impressing them, he has been threatened and given to understand that he will feel the effects of his obstinacy in this case. Explains that he was told that an application was made to the Sheriff of the County and to the Magistrates to compel him to release the 2 seaman but no such applications were received and, moreover, the Sheriff and the Magistrates have told him that they are obliged to him for maintaining the peace in the area.
