Folios 195 -196: Pitt Burnaby Greene, HMS Bonne Citoyenne, Sheerness. Replies to a letter from the Admiralty, dated 24 April 1813, asking him to explain whey he took on board bread and flourat St Michael's when he weas so near to the end of his voyage. Explains that the ship's company had, due to the unusual length of the passage from Bahia as far as the Western Islands, been on two thirds allowance for a fortnight, and secondly that there were only 14 days beef and pork on board at the time of anchoring at St Michael's with no salt provisins available. Advises that the weather was also blowing from the NE and he had every reason to suppose there might American cruisers in search of HMS Bonne Citoyenne off the Western Islands with knowledge of her value and destination, as well as him having information that 3 French frigates were in the neighbouthood which might compel him to steer a course contrary to the direction of his destination and he would then be short of provisions.
