Description

Folios 227-228: James Greene, 41 Norfolk Street, London. He reports that he has returned to England on board HMS Active having been invalided from his ship the bomb vessel HMS Stromboli. He encloses an Order and Report of Survey and his Discharge Ticket from hospital and requests that he be put on the half pay list.

Folio 229: Enclosure to folios 227-228: A sick ticket dated 6 January 1812 stating that Captain Greene has been received into the hospital at Gibraltar suffering from kidney and liver disease. And a Hospital Discarge announcing his discharge from the hospital on 16 April 1812 into HMS Active to take him to England as it was considered that a change of climate would be beneficial.

Folios 231-232: Enclosure to folios 227-228: An order from Charles Vinicombe Penrose the Commander and Senior Officer at Gibraltar Bay dated 3 January 1812. He requests the captains of HMS Magnificent, l'Aigle and Druid to order their surgeons to conduct a survey of the health of Captain Groves. Appended to the document is the report of Captain George Eyre of HMS Magnificent, Captain Sir John Louis of HMS l'Aigle and Captain John Searle of HMS Druid stating that their surgeons had attended Captain Groves on HMS Stromboli . They repoprted him to be sick with kidney and liver disease and much emaciated and weak and so recommended his removal to hospital.
