Description

Folios 194-195: James Galloway, HMS Princess, Liverpool. He encloses a surgeons report on two men, named John Small and Thomas Tyler and a boy named Peter Linney, who are all considered unfit for service in the navy. He asks for instructions and reassures the Admiralty that he has ordered the surgeon to be careful in his inspections.

Folios 196-197: Enclosures to folios 194-195: The surgeon reports that the first man, John Small had been invalided in the East Indies with an ulcer on his leg. He had travelled home with the surgeon on HMS Diomede. Eight weeks after he volunteered the surgeon had to attend him again because of the ulcer on his leg and then an accident meant his leg was crushed by a cable. He is most unwell and unfit for service. The second man, Thomas Taylor, has a chronic liver complaint as a result of which he had previously been invalided from HMS Namur two years ago. Finally, the boy, Peter Linney has a heart defect and as a result suffers from severe palpitations if subjected to any energetic work.

Accordingly he thinks all three persons should be discharged now. Sending them on to Plymouth would be a waste of time and money.
