Folios 178-179: Letter from James Sykes of Arundel Street agent for Captain Joseph G Garland. He writes that Captain Garland was Flag Lieutenant to Rear Admiral Thomas Russell from 1 November 1803 to 2 August 1804 during which time he served on the ships HMS Repulse, Prince of Orange, Adder, Hero, Orestes, Inflexible ,Perseus, Stately and Monmouth. This is demonstrated by the Rear Admiral's Certificate which is enclosed. not enclosed) He observes that it is not usual to request the journals and Captain's certificates of service for flag lieutenants.
