Folios 107-108: John Gore, HMS Tonnant, Tagus.
Has received a letter from the Admiralty dated 18 February 1811 asking for information about the character of four named men. He states that they were condemned to death by court martial for deserting with one of the boats at Cadiz attempting to get to the enemy but that it happened before he took command of HMS Tonnant. He has asked people who know the circumstances to report.
Folio 109: enclosure with folios 107-108. William Green, boatswain's mate, makes his mark and states that Hugh Burne is a drunkard who formerly belonged the French privateer Bellada which captured the Indiaman Lord Nelson in 1803 but was recaptured and sent on board HMS Tonnant.
Folio 110: enclosure with folios 107-108. Hodgson, master, writes that Hugh Burn is inclined to thieving and has been punished for it. Samuel Stewart is a drunkard. He cannot comment about William Talbot or Richard McGuire.
Folio 111: enclosure with folios 107-108. William Stokes, master's mate, reports on the four men.
