Description

Folios 44-45: Edward Levison Gower, HMS Elizabeth, Portsmouth Harbour.

Refers to the enclosed letter from the purser Edward Lawson Long and asks that serious consideration be given to the request .

Folios 46-47: enclosure with folios 44-45. Edward Lawson Long, HMS Elizabeth, Portsmouth, 23 February 23 1811. Write to Gower and asks to be remunerated for the additional expenditure on fuel that was used to fumigate and purify the air on board HMS Elizabeth. The Grafton, where the ship's company were hulked also required the same supplies. He refers to an enclosed letter from he Victualling Office and notes that the Alcede hulk has required similar treatment.

Folios 48-49: enclosure with folios 44-45. Victualling Office, 31 January 1811, having received a request from Long that he be reimbursed for extra expenditure incurred to destroy the effects of a contagious fever among the company of HMS Elizabeth they inform him that the request can only be made by direction from the Admiralty.

Folio 50: enclosure with folios 44-45. An account of the quantities of fuel, coals, wood and candles, used between 13 January and 18 February 1811 .
