Folio 164: William Gordon. He has been appointed to command HMS Nereide at The Cape of Good Hope. Requests an order for a passage on the first ship proceeding there. Mr W Crichton, Master's Mate, and Mr Charles McDowall, Midshipman, together with the Coxswain and 4 men, were allowed by Admiral Bertie at The Cape of Good Hope to join HMS Sapphire with Captain Gordon from HMS Charwell. They all wish to join Captain Gordon on HMS Nereide.
