Description

Folios 160-161:William Gordon, London. Encloses a letter he has received from Mr Verrall, who acted as Purser of HMS Charwell under Captain Gordon's command and who on all occasions gave service of the greatest satisfaction. He is very deserving to fill a post as Purser.

Folios 162-163: enclosure with folios 160-161: John Verrall, London, to Captain William Gordon, 12 June 1810. He served as Clerk on board HMS Staunch for 2 years and 5 months under command of Lieutenant Street, and as Purser of HMS Charwell under command of Lieutenants Coulson, Robb and Benge, and also Captain Gordon between 28 September 1808 and 10 January 1810. He has sent certificates of his service as Clerk, together with his original order from Vice Admiral Bertie to act as Purser on HMS Charwell, but has not ben confirmed as Purser. Requests consideration and confirmation accordingly.
