Folios 141-142: Edward Grey, Regulating Officer, Hull. Reports that Danish Prize ships are frequently sent in to Hull by the Baltic or North Sea cruisers. After the Prize Masters or agents have taken the depositions (for condemnation) by the Master or others of the crew on board, they are then freed, to go where they want. They then board neutral vessels and return home. A few days ago, he was approached by one of the agents to ask whether he had any instructions regarding the prisoners. He said he had none. He wishes to report this in case The Admiralty was unaware of the practice. Although Hull is not a depot for Prisoners of War, perhaps measures should be taken to prevent such prisoners being set free.
