Folios 137-138: Charles Grant, HMS Diana, Spithead. Sends a letter from Mr Bean, Gunner of HMS Diana, stating the circumstances of his losing his appointment to a Third Rate after he had been promoted to a ship of that rate. Asks for his case to be taken into consideration and states that he is a most deserving man and Officer.
Folios 139-140: enclosure with folios 137-138: Andrew Bean, HMS Diana, Spithead. Notes that he was promoted and appointed to HMS Inflexible in January 1808, at which time he was Gunner of HMS Flora, then at sea. The ship was soon after wrecked off the coast of Holland and he was taken prisoner. On his return to England in September 1808 he was ordered to the books of HMS Salvadores where he remained until February 1809, when ordered to HMS Diana with the promise of a higher rating when a vacancy occurred. Asks that his 17 years of service, of which at least 10 years has been in actual service as a Gunner in a fifth rate ship, be taken into consideration. Twice during this period he has been wrecked and endured some hardship.
