Description

Folios 175-176: Edward Grey, Regulating Officer, Hull [Rendezvous]. Reply to letter dated 25 February 1809. (with the enclosed Petition from Alice Standige, requesting the discharge of her husband Thomas Standige) with directions to state the case in this mans capture. Thomas Standige an Able Seaman about 40 years old was impressed by Lieutenant Bruce on 20 February 1809 (on information received, for which I paid three pounds) Mr [John] Kirkman (Surgeon and Agent for Sick and Hurt) particularly examined him and reported him a fit man for the Service but stated that the grasp of the right hind was in some degree weakened by the loss of the joint.

Folios 177-178: enclosure with folios 175-176. Petition dated 2 February 1809 of Alice Standige, Dagger Lane, Hull to the Admiralty. Requests the discharge of her husband Thomas Standige who was impressed on 2 February 1809 on shore in Hull, He has formerly served in His Majesty's Navy six years and was discharged at the conclusion of the last peace. He has lost the joint of his thumb of his right hand on board the Merchant Ship Albion - [Mr] Kirkus Master belonging to Hull, about four years ago, which renders him unfit in some degree. Since then he has been employed in the Merchant Ships in the Baltic and North American Trade.
