Folios 173-175: Edward Grey, Regulating Officer, Hull [Rendezvous]. Report the apprehension of Edward Ryal (Carpenter and Able Seaman) a deserter from HMS Utile at Yarmouth. The conduct of this man has been really bad. As he entered at this Rendezvous as a substitute for William Davis who had been impressed, for which in his presence he received thirty Guineas. On the 6 November he was sent to Yarmouth on board HMS Utile, He istates on his arrival that Lieutenant William Gilchrist obtained an order from Admiral Douglas for him to remain as one of HMS Utile's crew, he says about six weeks since, he got leave to go on shore when he deserted. He travelled by land to Boston in Lincolnshire from there he came to Hull in a Sloop. He will be sent to Yarmouth by the first conveyance to be disposed of as may be directed. He is 32 a very stout able man, has been 14 years at sea and served his time as a Shipwright.
