Description

Folios 166-167: Edward Grey, Regulating Officer, Hull [Rendezvous]. Reply to letter dated 27 January 1809 with the enclosed letter respecting George Brigham. States the case. [Details of his impressment]. A few days since, his friends applied to him to know if four Landsmen (instead of two Seaman) would be accepted. He told them that this was not in his power. He yesterday received one Seaman as a substitute and they told him that they would soon get another.

Folios 168-169: enclosure with folios 166-167. Letter dated 25 January 1809 by John and Sarah Brigham, Gordon Street, Hull, to the Admiralty Petition on behalf of their son George Brigham who was pressed five weeks since. Captain Grey desired us to write to you to request he be allowed to take a Landsman in his stead.

Folio 170: enclosure with folios 166-167. Letter dated 3 January 1809 by John Barrow, Admiralty, to Captain [Edward] Grey, Hull. (Copy) Having given your report of 1 January 1809 on George Brigham impressed at Hull, he is directed to acquaint you that he cannot be discharged unless he procures two Able Seaman as substitutes. If he does so you are to discharge him with a certificate that it was done by their Lordships Order, with his description.
