Description

Folios 251-252: James Green, HMS Aberdeen transport, in the Tagus. Receipt of letter from Mr Barrow dated 10 October [1808] stating that he was directed to go to his duty on board HMS Humber hired armed ship. He applied to Admiral Sir Charles Cotton for permission to return to England and encloses a copy of his answer. He will comply with the Admiralty's directions as soon as he is permitted to do so.

Folio 253: enclosure with folios 251-252. Copy of letter dated 20 November 1808 from C[harles] Cotton, HMS Hibernia, in the Tagus, to Captain Green, Principal Agents of Transports. He is expecting instructions from the Admiralty concerning the army transports going to England. The presence of a transport Officer of his rank is necessary so he will take it upon himself to detain him from going to HMS Humber.
