Folios 238-239: James Grant, HMS Raven, Plymouth Sound. He sailed from Cork on 18 [August 1808] with the vessels under convoy as per enclosed list [not present] for the West Indies. He arrived at Barbados on 4 October [1808] and sailed on 7 [October 1808] with the trade bound to the Leeward Islands and arrived at Jamaica on 21 October [1808], sailing again on 31 [October 1808] according to Admiral Rowley's order enclosed. Reports a heavy gale on 6 December [1808]. Reports the high number of invalids and passengers on board, including state prisoners Mr Goddall and his followers, sent home by Admiral Rowley as in the service of General Christophe. Forwards Admiral Rowley's dispatches and those in his charge to Lord Castlereagh from the Duke of Manchester.
Folios 240-241: enclosure with folios 238-239. Copy of order dated 30 October 1808 from Bartholomew Samuel Rowley, Vice Admiral of the White, Commander in Chief at Jamaica and Bahamas to James Grant, Commander of HMS Raven, given on board HMS Shark, Port Royal, Jamaica. Directs him to put to sea tomorrow and proceed to Spithead with dispatches and report his arrival, sending a log of proceedings and a list of persons received on board for the passage. He is to await orders for their disposal, apart from Mr Pavia who may be permitted to proceed to London. He is to victual Invalids and Supernumeraries in the same manner as the ship's company.
Folios 242-243: enclosure with folios 238-239. Copy of Memorandum dated 27 October 1808 from B S Rowley, Vice Admiral, HMS Shark, Port Royal, Jamaica, to Captain Grant, HMS Raven. He is to receive William Price late Astrea, supposedly one of the crew of HMS Hermione for a passage to England, disposing of him as directed by the Admiralty on arrival. He is to be kept in close confinement in the charge of a sentry during the voyage.
