Folios 435-436: Edward Grey, Regulating officer, Hull. Inclosing a letter from Mr C Johnson, master of the Sheerness tender (Lieutenant Lessly being on shore sick) informing him that David Clayton deserted but was taken on shore by William Finch but escaped. It looks unlikely that Lieutenant Lessly will ever return off sick. He incloses a report on the ships on the Humber and a letter from the boatswain on the tender.
Folios 437-438: enclosure with folios 435-436. Letter dated 7 January 1804 by C Johnson, HMS tender Sheerness, Hull to Edward Grey. Mr Finch, boatswain, was accessory in guiding & assisting in the escape of David Clayton.
Folio 439: enclosure with Folios 435-436. A letter dated 8 January 1804 by William Finch, HMS Sheerness, to Edward Grey. Confessing his actions in assisting the escape of David Clayton and appealing for leniency. He had diligently served on HMS L'Espion, Brakal etc. during 9 years.
Folio 440: enclosure with folios 435-436. A daily report dated 8 January 1804 of HMS ships & vessels in the Humber with their arrival and sailing by Edward Grey, Regulating officer, Hull.
