Description

Folios 399-400: George Grey, HMS Royal Charlotte, Hope Reach. Inclosing a letter and card [not present] from Captain Samuel Mottley and reporting that James Beach was included in the return of the harbour marines 21 December 1803 who I informed Captain Snow that he was a deserter,. He believes that the recruitment practices need looking into.

Folios 401-402: enclosure with folios 399-400. Letter dated 13 February 1804 by Captain Thomas Rolls Snow, Captain Commander of Harbour Marine Fensibles, Principal Harbour Master's Office Greenwich to Captain Thomas Richbell. He reports that William Dilley HMS Princess Augusta in Lieutenant Barkers application never belonged to the corps of harbour marines. He further complains about the vexation persecution exercised on his men by the impress service.

Folios 403-404: enclosure with folios 399-400. Letter dated 1 February 1804 by Samuel Mottley to George Grey, HMS Royal Charlotte. He states that William Dilley a deserter from HMS Princess Agusta was found on board the Thames East India Ship and apprehended. He found on him the inclosed card [not present] given to nim by James Beach, another deserter from Princess Agusta as a protection from the impress service, signed by Captain Snow.
