Description

Folios 434-435: Edward Grey, Regulating Captain, Hull. Acknowledges the letter and enclosure of the letter from Mr. Crew concerning James Marshall. Captain Grey states that on third of this month Lieutenant Hunt impressed William Marshall from the Alex Duncan sloop that is employed carrying Ordnance. Marshall was regulated. Captain Grey refers to the command sent to him concerning such protection. Captain Grey encloses a copy of a letter from Mr Crew and a daily report of HM's ships in the Humber. He mentions that in order to prevent the vessel’s delay, he sent a very good Seaman as a substitute at the same level of wages, but Mr. Thompson the Master refused to take him.

Folio 436: enclosure with folios 434-435. The daily report of HM's ships in the Humber dated 11 December 1803 by Edward Grey, Regulating Captain, Hull to the Admiralty. The HMS Helder, Snipe, Gellykhied and Sheerness tender.

Folio 437: enclosure with folios 434-435. The protection certificate ,dated six August 1803 by Mr. Crew, Secretary to the Board of Ordnance, Tower of London to all HM’s Officers Civil and Military. The Bearer James Thompson, Master of the Alexander Duncan and 3 men transporting Ordnance stores in HM’s name are not to be impressed, arrested, imprisoned or hindered in the service provided the name, age, description and place of abode are endorsed on the back of the protection document.
