Folios 430-431: Edward Grey, Regulating Captain, Hull. Encloses Reports on the number of men raised for the fleet and the number of HM’s ships in the Humber. He reports on a seaman William Marshall who was impressed on a sloop employed by the Board of Ordnance carrying stores along the coast. The sloop is not chartered for ton or month. The Master of the vessel has applied for the release of the man and was informed he would not be given up, The Master of the vessels in a very impertinent manner has replied he would not moor his vessel and would apply to the Ordnance pay damages for the delay. Colonel Judson of the Artillery has also applied for the man. The Colonel and Master of the vessels have been shown the orders concerning protection and the vessel need to be detained for want of a man. He encloses a copy of the vessel’s protection. It is likely the Ordnance Board will be involved.
Folios 432: enclosure with folios 430-431: A Daily Report dated 3rd December 1803 by Edward Grey, Regulating Captain, Hull. To the Admiralty. The Report of HM’s ships in the Humber area: HMS Helder, Snipe, Gellykhied and Sheerness tender.
Folio 433: enclosure with folios 430-431: A copy of the protection, dated 26 August 1803 by The Lieutenant General and Principal Officers of HM's Ordnance. To all of H M Civil and Military Officers. The Protection id given to the Bearer: James Thompson Master and three men employed on the Alexander Duncan transporting Ordnance stores along the coast. William Marshall is the man impressed, aged 21 years and has been eight years at sea. The vessel is about seventy tone burthen.
