Description

Folios 263-264: Walter Grossett, HMS Port Mahon, Spithead.

States his successful endeavours in rasing volunteers for his ship, the numbers of which can be seen in the enclosed report [not present]. Also reports that on the 10 December [1802] between 11pm and 12pm the small bower cable gave way in a most violent squall of wind resulting in the ship grounding on the rocks under Castle Cornett. With the exertions of the crew was able to heave the ship off with no apparent damage.
