Folios 240-241: Edward Griffith, HMS Diamond, Spithead.
Reports his arrival from Lisbon with despatches from Mr Frere, Minister at the Court of Portugal, for Lord Hawkesbury. Also mentions that while attempting to secure anchorage after dark at Spithead, HMS Diamond run aground on the ridge of Homans Land, and as it was nearly high water at the time, was obliged to throw six of our main deck guns overboard and to start our water to get the ship off before the tide fell. Is hopeful that the ship has sustained no damage. Encloses a report on the state and condition HMS Diamond with a journal of proceedings [not present].
