Incorporated under West Shropshire Mineral Railway Act of 29th July 1862. Name changed to Shrewsbury and North Wales Railway Company by Shrewsbury and North Wales Railway Act of 1864. Amalgamated with Shrewsbury and Potteries Junction Railway as Potteries Shrewsbury and North Wales Railway by Potteries Shrewsbury and North Wales Railway Act 1866.
By Order of Chancery Division of High Court of Justice made 21st April 1882, said Potteries Shrewsbury and North Wales Railway Company was ordered to be wound up and Official Liquidator of Company was appointed on or about 8th July 1882. By Shropshire Railways Act 7th August 1888 Shropshire Railways Company was incorporated for acquirement of Potteries Shrewsbury and North Wales Railway Company.
Under Light Railways Act of 1896 an order known as Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Light Railway Order February 1909 was obtained by Shropshire Railways Company authorising reconstruction and working of certain parts of Railway and works of that Company (see Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Light Railway Company). Shropshire Railways Company was for many years in Receiver's hands, and under Transport Act 1947 it passed to British Transport Commission.
