Folios 265-266: Edward Griffith, HMS Diamond, at Sea [Position given]. Embraces the opportunity (by a Lisbon Pacquet which he has just fallen in with), of acquainting you that after having seen the India Men to the Southward of Madeira, he was on his return, when on the 16 June 1799 at [Position given] he was chased by four Enemy Frigates, which from their conduct R had reason to suppose were cruising on that ground. On the 24 June 1799 he fell in with HMS Dryad and HMS La [Le] Revolutionaire, and the Captains of those Ships agreeing with him in opinion that we should go in pursuit of the Enemy. Has returned to take them off their under his orders, and is now on his way to the Position which he last saw the Frigates.
