Folios 263-264: Edward Griffith, HMS Diamond, St Helens. Having understood from Admiral Sir Peter Parker [(1st Baronet of Bassingbourn)] that the Admiralty desired to know why HMS Diamond and her Convoy did not sail on Sunday. He states that on Friday he made it known to the Captains if the India Ships (through the Company's agent at Portsmouth) that it was his intention to sail on Sunday, as per the orders he had received. In answer he was told both by the Senior Captain of the Convoy and by the Agent, that they did not think it possible to get the Convoy away before Tuesday. On Monday morning at day light he made the signal to unmoor, and shortly after to weigh (intending, as the wind was then at SW only to move down to St Helens). The signal to weigh was not complied with and in the afternoon it came on to blow, he therefore hauled it down. [Total of two sides].
