Folios 170-171: Edward Leveson Gower, HMS Castor, Hamoaze. HMS Castor has been much retarded in fitting he feels it his duty to report that the Health of the Ships Company much injured by not being able to supply themselves properly with clothes which they will be able to do when we get out of Harbour as almost all of them have Pay or Bounty due. HMS Castor was commissioned on 15 December 1798, and was ready for sea except Rope, Sais & Cables, on 8 January 1799. The complement was completed on 22 January 1799 - HMS Castor was supplied on 25 February. Has made every application to be supplied with Sails and he now finds (from the preference ordered to this ship) that HMS Castor's sails will certainly not be finished in less than a fortnight and probably it will be much longer. Unless the Admiralty orders otherwise.
