Folios 249-250: Sir Erasmus Gower, HMS Triumph, Spithead. Reply to letter 20 April says Johan Rhindley born at Feldkirch, Tyrol, Ulrich Swartsman born at Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Joshua Timmeran born in the dominions of the Prince of Salm Salm are Germans who deserted from the French army in Corsica where they joined General Dunas who sent them onboard HMS Alcide. They say Captain Woodley promised them their discharge when they reached England however they wish to remain in the Service provided they are paid the Royal Bounty otherwise they’ll apply for their discharge through the Imperial Ambassador.
