Folios 259-261: John Fyffe, HMS Indefatigable, Rio Janeiro [Rio de Janeiro]. George P Eyre, Master's Mate having been Run on the books of HMS Indefatigable in consequence of being left behind at Rio Janeiro [Rio de Janeiro] on the 31 January 1814. He reports that Mr Eyre had gone on shore to purchase necessaries, received information that a deserter from the ship and went in search of him. He remained on shore too late to return that night and we sailed very early the next morning unexpectedly and he was left behind. He applied to Vice Admiral Dixon for Orders and was directed to proceed on board La Ceres, Prise to HMS Niger and HMS Tagus, then fitting out here, which he did and was placed upon Her Books since which he was discharged from that ship to HMS Aquilon. Requests to have the R removed from his name.
