Description

Folios 221-222: William Flint, 22 Arundel Street. Having been appointed to HMS Blanche, in the East Indies by the late Admiral William O'Bryen Drury in March 1811 (confirmed). He was superceded from HMS Wilhelmina Hospital Ship at Prince of Wales Island on the 31 March 1811. When HMS Blanche was ordered out of commission, he repaired to Malta in hopes of meeting the Admiral, whose death he heard on his passage. He made application to Commodore Broughton of HMS Illustrious, the senior in that station, for another appointment with which he did not comply. He made his case to the Admiralty from the Island of Java and remained there till he received a reply that there was no intention of employing him in India but as no Man of War was about to sail for England he found passage on the Lord Eldon East Indiaman and arrived in Plymouth 2 May 1814. He requests to be allowed full Pay as Captain from the day he ceased, when he was superceded from HMS Wilhelmina to the day he arrived in Plymouth.
