Folios 222-223: Edward James Foote, HMS Sea-horse [Seahorse], Spithead. Reports that the Transport Office at Portsmouth have given him a list of the ships bound for the Mediterranean, but none appear to be destined for Malta, even though the list supplied to Captain James Young of HMS Pique by the Admiralty shows several ships bound for that destination. His orders require him to call at Minorca and then proceed to Malta, so if he does not receive a reply before the wind allows him to sail with the convoy, he will call on General Fox when he arrives in Minorca for further guidance. He has now decided to take HMS Chichester, HMS Serapis and HMS Alliance with him into the Mediterranean without stopping at Gibraltar.
