Folios 228-229: Edward James Foote, HMS Niger, Spithead. At the request of the ship's Surgeon and on the recommendation of the Physician of the Fleet, he has issued wine to men who are sick with a fever. Vice Admiral Colpoys will have transmitted the Physician's report on the fever, which still prevails, and 24 Men have gone to hospital in a state of delirium. He will continue to sail off the Isle of Wight, occasionally anchoring to land sick Men, unless the ship becomes unworkable.
Folios 230-231: enclosure with folios 228-229 dated 25 June 1796 from William Burd, Surgeon, HMS Niger. to Captain Foote. Dr Trotter, Physician of the Fleet had been onboard to examine the fever which prevails in the crew and recommends wine being issued to the sick men. He asks for an order to supply him with wine.
