Folios 221-222: Edward James Foote, HMS Niger, Spithead. As ordered by Admiral Sir Peter Parker, 3 hand locks invented by D.Onion, were used during the last cruise when repeating Vice Admiral Colpoys signal, which made the priming of the guns unnecessary. He would not approve of them in action but they would prevent accidents when guns hang or missing fire.
